Guild grieves Interstate General Media’s unilateral increase in parking fee without bargaining.

July 19, 2012billrossInquirer

Dear Guild member,

The Newspaper Guild filed a grievance with Interstate General Media Wednesday evening immediately following CEO Bob Hall’s announcement about the $137 parking rate. That announcement of course followed three previous bulletins from the employer that the rate would be “less than $100 per month.”

A copy of the grievance follows:

“The Guild grieves the Employer’s unilateral change/increase in the parking fee for bargaining unit members.

This benefit is a mandatory subject of bargaining. The increase is material, substantial and significantly affects our members terms and conditions of employment.

The Guild demands that the Employer maintain the current $44 monthly fee through the end of the current collective bargaining agreement, or until such time as the parties may mutually agree to a change.

Please schedule a grievance meeting to discuss.”

As previously instructed, despite our challenge to its cost, we encourage that members who plan to drive to 801 Market sign up for the parking plan through the company.

We will continue to update the membership as the situation progresses.
