NEWSROOM LAYOFFS TO PROCEED.
Dear Guild Members:
Bill Ross and I met with the Company this morning to once again urge against any layoffs in the newsroom.
We asserted that 500 layoffs out at the plant are devastating enough and that our “premium on journalism” underscores why we cannot afford to lose anyone in the newsroom at this time. We have lost too many in recent years.
The Company insists these cuts are necessary.
The five to be laid off will be informed this week, likely Wednesday or after, with their jobs terminated immediately.
Until then, the Company remains open to anyone 50 or older interested in a buyout. If you want one, please contact us immediately.
