JRC Contracts Extended.
March 27, 2012
Guild members,
Today, all three of our JRC contracts, the Delaware County Times, The Pottstown Mercury, and the Norristown Times Herald, have been extended for an additional 90 days with a no layoff guarantee over the 90 days, and if layoffs were to be announced, the earliest they could occur would be July 31, 2012. JRC has agreed to have a monthly conference call with all 3 of our unit officers, to update us on project Thunderdome, and any other changes that may be implemented nation wide.
The company had asked to meet today with our Delco unit, as a leapfrog if a settlement was reached for our other properties. The threat of a work stoppage at all 3 papers on April 1, forced CFO Bill Higginson to the bargaining table today.
In light of all the current changes to the media landscape in the nation, we feel continuing to extend with the status quo, and a no lay-off guarantee, was best for our JRC membership.
In Unity,
