JRC bargaining and bankruptcy update.
Guild members,
In a most productive round of bargaining in New York today, 21st Century Acquisition Corp, the stalking horse buyer of The Journal Register Company has agreed to a two year contract, hire all Guild members, at our 4 papers, honoring seniority and benefits. No pay cuts, and a one year no lay-off guarantee. We are still in negotiations over pension plans where they currently exist. We will resume bargaining next Thursday at 10 am in New York. The effective dates of all 4 contracts will be the date the sale closes, probably in March, and run for 2 years.
I am very pleased with today’s outcome.
