Who governs these benefits?
A Board of four Trustees appointed jointly by the NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia (TNG-CWA Local 38010) and The Philadelphia Inquirer, LLC under provisions of the federal Taft-Hartley Act. The two Union Trustees are officers of the NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia: Diane Mastrull,President; and Bill Ross, Guild Executive Director. The two Company Trustees are executives of Philadelphia Media Network; Vice President of Human Resources, Laura Kauffman, and Barbara Sadler, Finance Vice President.
The Taft-Hartley Act requires that these trustees act in the interests of the members who benefit from the fund and, when acting as trustees, keep this work separate from other issues and negotiations between the union and the company.
